I was at a nice wedding this past weekend and, even though it was an open bar, paid for by our host, there was a tip jar at every bar.  When did tip jars start appearing at catered affairs?  Maybe I am out of the loop as I have not paid for a party such as this for almost a decade, but I know that at that time the caterer added in a nice gratuity for the servers and barkeeps.  Maybe I assume too much, but I assume the same is true today.

Personally I find this tacky, and, if I were the host, I would have been furious and would have demanded that the tip jars be taken down immediately….but perhaps I am just out of tune with the times.
